Evaluation
Describe a time when you solved a difficult people problem in your course Unit 9 project?
In unit 9, I had someone who did not want to be a part of the project, I showed empathy and understanding towards them, and managed to find someone else to help out with it.
In this unit we had to do a mock interview and use the STAR method. We had to write questions and answers for ourselves and have somebody else ask them.
The questions I came up with were appropriate to what job I was 'applying' for however I felt as if some of my answers came across very negatively which I will avoid for the future. Looking back at the video I can definitely tell I am confident in what i'm saying and I didn't hesitate or seem nervous throughout the whole interview. For the Star method I can see that I did describe a situation I was in (the lady I served at work), for Task I can clearly see I stated that I had to remain calm and not make a deal out of the way she was, Action I spoke about telling my boss and colleague for that day and I can also see I spoke about result as it did work out in the end and I kept a smile on my face and she didn't complain about anything else.
The feedback I received on this was positive and negative, the positive being I was confident and didn't seem nervous and it seemed like I knew what I was doing, however the negative was how I portrayed some people in a negative manner and how I shouldn't do that in the future.
Comparing it to the video we were shown I can defiantly see similarities and differences I can see that I used the STAR method throughout however I can see how the lady in the video described a negative time more positively whereas I didn't, I will take away from this ways to word things more professionally.
CV
We also had to create a CV in this unit, CVs help to get jobs as it has your skills and experience which give the employer an insight of what you have done in the past. We were asked to create a CV for a "job application". I have created a CV in the past as I already have a job so I had an idea of what went into it. We were asked to create it on a website called canva.com which makes it look proffessional, It was easy to use and you could make it your own. It was harder to make a CV "applying" for a stage management job when the only experience I had was being a waitress but after contacting my lecturer I found out as it was only a fake one I could say I had the experience.
The final product looks professional and had all the information it needs such as contact details, experience and skills, hobbies and my education. I received some feedback on it which was positive, however one suggestion was maybe swap hobbies and skills around.
Cover Letter
With a CV also comes a cover letter. Cover letters are pretty simple to write as its only about you saying you want to apply for a job at their place of work and that the CV is enclosed. In this cover letter I was applying for the job of a stage manager at the Apollo theatre in London. I feel like my cover letter works and is professional as I included a website where I would of found the job, both mine and the employers addresses and that my CV is attached. I don't think there is anyway I can improve this cover letter as I believed I have covered and included everything
Telephone Call
In this unit we also had to cover telephone skills and to do this we had to pretend we were taking a call and learn how to be professional on the phone. Being a waitress I have an idea on how it works by asking the appropriate questions and how to sound on the phone. For this telephone call I pretended I worked at Arbuckles and somebody was ringing up to book a table. I asked them how many people it was for, what time and if I could take a name and contact number. We were asked to get the costumer to repeat something so when I asked them for their name I politely asked them to repeat it. At the end of the phone call I told the costumer the time they booked and how many for before saying goodbye and thank you. I am not very confident when it comes to answering the phone but once I do I am fine with it, I already know and use these skills when im at my work place so for the future I will just continue to use these skills.
Personal Statement
I gave my personal statement to a few people, My Aunt (who is an English teacher), my dance teacher a lecturer and my course director. All of their feedback was very similar so I edited it with their corrections (mainly grammar and punctuation) and sent it off to UCAS. I didn't send it to anybody else as my feedback was positive. When writing my personal statement I looked on the UCAS website and looked at their personal statement guide swell as Canterbury Christ Church universities guide swell, which helped me know what sort of things I needed to write on my statement.
I would say this page is good as well, i can see where you've been using Rolfe et al to shape your answers. Other than some SPAG that needs to be looked at I think this is okay.
